Oregon State Requirements


Required Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law, are required every 2-year license term.

Annuity Training Requirement

  • Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Oregon, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oregon, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. Producers may take any 8-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.

  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period thereafter. Producers may take any 4-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.

Property Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law, are required every 2-year license term.

Flood Insurance

All Oregon property producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time, 3-hour course approved for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training.

Casualty Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law, are required every 2-year license term. Oregon has course category restrictions.

Nonresident CE Requirements

Nonresident producers selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC products have special training or education requirements as described below:

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oregon, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. Nonresident producers may take any 8-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.

  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period thereafter. Nonresident producers may take any 4-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.

License Term

The license term is every 2 years, based on the last day of the producer?s birth month. Producers who were born in an even-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in even-numbered years. Producers who were born in an odd-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.

CE Subject Requirements

Producers may complete their 24-hour CE requirement by taking courses approved only for the line of authority licensed for. A minimum of 3 hours must be in a course approved for ethics, and a minimum of 3 hours must be in a course approved for Orgeon Insurance Law.

The Oregon Insurance Department requires that a student may not complete more than 8 hours of continuing education credit in one day.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2-year license term.

CE Completion Reporting

AOIS usually reports courses completions every business day to State Based Systems (SBS).

Agents must have their CE credit hours posted prior to their expiration date and prior to applying to renew their insurance license(s). Providers have 15 days to report your CE completions, so please plan accordingly to avoid a lapse in licensure.

Certificate of Completion

AOIS provides online, printable certificates of completion in Oregon. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. Producers should keep original copies of certificates for their records.

Producers can renew their license online at www.nipr.com.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Oregon CE requirements:

  • Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state

  • No continuing education is required for adjusters

  • No continuing education is required for consultants
